Hat Design Story: Brown and Gold Fascinator

  So this was one of the first fascinators that I made. I went on etsy and bought a kit that a hat store made. I think they started selling the kits during the pandemic since people couldn't visit the hat store in person. The kit came with the vintage looking jewelry piece, feathers, netting, and a base.  I fell in love with the gold vintage looking jewlery and made it the center piece of the hat. Designs that followed after also start with a center piece of jewlery and I build the design around that. So after I placed the center piece I added the feathers and netting for more flare. I actually later added more netting because I thought the netting had to be more full. I had extra netting because I had lots of supplies and leftovers from previous hats.  Now I think in a lot of hat designs the netting usually creates a veil that covers the eyes. Where my Love of Hats Began: A Love Letter to Granny

  Growing up I adored my grandmother who we all called Granny. Her actual name was Maryann and she started me on my hat journey. Maryann (aka Granny) was an inspiring woman and to me she was very fashionable. She loved wearing hats with her very fabulous outfits. She shared her fashion, hats, and styles with me. Every year before school started she would take me and my sibilings shopping. She would buy each of us a new outfit for the school year. I remember one year she bought me these pink/purple/white sparkly boots that I thought were the coolest and I wore them all the time. I was so proud of those boots. Looking back on it all now I think my style and sense of fashion to this day reflects Granny's style. I looked up to her and wanted to dress like her.
